The below string is from a discussion I had with an acquaintance from the EU. He raised some questions based on an article he found. I thought the dialog was appropriate for all to enjoy
Cod liver oil's effectiveness stems mainly from its large amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. This statement is true if you are buying a commercial grade of clo. We make the clo like it has been made Since biblical times....through about 1850-1920 range. Some time after the 20’s and for sure by the 1950’s clo was fully industrialized. It no longer had all the thousands of nutrients that made clo special throughout history. By the 1950’s +/- Clo was reduced to fatty acids and man made A and D added. Real fclo (as we make it) is fermented for up to a year... No heat applied. It is completely different from what you buy in the stores today. Omega-3 acids are fats, and like all fats they contain large amounts of calories. Following some of the recommended dosage guidelines would add 200 calories a day to a person's diet. People taking supplements rich in omega-3 fatty acids may need to change their diet to ensure they don't include too much fat, which could also cause health problems. This is not true. The MYTH that consuming fat is not healthy is incorrect. The discussion should focus on what types of fat. Many diseases and issues of today can partially be attributed to the lack of nutrients in our foods compared to years ago and the reduced fat intake coupled with increased sugar (carbohydrate) intake. Many, many fat soluble nutrients are found in fats and are not found any place else in your diet.... Including, hormones, plant stem cells, a variety of vitamin A’s (160 known types). A variety of vitamin D’s (I have a book that shows 957 different structures of D and indicates there might be thousands of different types), a variety of vitamin E’s and other quinones such as vitamin k’s, co-Q enzymes etc..... Fyi, vitamin D is hormone and many doctors warn about the improper use of synthetic hormones including man made D3. Anyway... Watch your sugars and eat health fats. Raw butter, lard/tallow from animals that are outside grazing, eggs from chickens that are outside eating bugs and grass, cod liver oil (fermented), fish eggs, fatty meats, olive oil... Stay away from all vegitable oils, other processed oils, white flower, sugar, gluten, etc..... Cod liver oil, whether taken in liquid or capsule form, is the richest source of vitamins A and D, which can be dangerous when taken in large amounts. Might be true of a drug especially if you are discussing vitamins A/D, as these are almost always man made nutrients. Real fclo is a food, not a drug. Drugs, as the article implicates clo, is different than food. Food (Fermented Cod Liver Oil -FCLO) will have countless co-factors, many many different types of the nutrients ,not just one man made variety etc... We need to consume foods/nutrients in its natural, unadulterated, condition. The nutrients, hormones, all interact and play a roll in our bodies ability to be balanced.. Just because we do not understand how the nutrients interact does not make it real. It used to be we would doctor generation by generation. Today’s media medicine attempts to reduce the art of doctoring to molecule by molecule.... I think this is a travesty to all humanity. Our existence is much more complex than this molecule or that molecule. .. But this style of doctoring does make drug companies plenty of $. People with diabetes should only use cod liver oil under the close supervision of a doctor, because the supplement could make their condition worse. Again, this might be true with a industrialized fish oil. And I have seen discussed that synthetic (man made D3) can negatively effect diabetes. Our fclo has no man made nutrients added. Real fclo has more D2 than D3... And it has some huge peaks in other types of D that I do not know the identity. Very little is understood about the hormone D. Even the experts in the study of quinones, plant hormones, plant stem cells and hormones such as D indicate that all these compounds we do not fully understand how they are human nutrients. It will be 25 years before we can discuss these nutrients with any confidence. These types of nutrients are found in forms for human consumption almost exclusively in fats from animals that are eating wild...as long as the fats are not denatured through processing. The very same fats that media medicine attempts to tell us not to eat. Fyi...high cholesterol has nothing to do with heart disease... This is another myth perpetrated on much of the world in the name of profit....
