The soft tissues in your mouth are an extension of your gastrointestinal tract. Your mouth is like the first tee in a golf game; like the coming attractions before the movie starts in the theater; like the entrance to Disney World. It’s where it all begins.
As a periodontist, I have been treating gum disease for 41 years. The traditional methods of treating gum disease have rarely included the concepts of healthy nutrition based on our evolutionary requirements. For my patients, I include the methods of assisting all the body’s cells to reach their peak nutritional performance along with my treatment of gum disease through patient-friendly techniques.
There is a relationship between the gums, the gut, and Paleo. Let me describe this correlation.
Your gastrointestinal tract is a tube about 25 feet long. The tissues lining the entire length of this tube from the mouth to the anus can and will respond in their own way to whatever occurs along this path.
Once you take the first bite of food, digestion begins. Assisting digestion are the teeth that chew the food, the muscles that move the food along, the enzymes and chemicals that are produced to breakdown the food, the friendly bacteria that further digest food particles and produce necessary biochemicals, and the absorption processes that allow the dissolved nutrients to migrate into the bloodstream to nourish every cell of the body. Whatever is left over from this digestion process is excreted.
If there were irritants to the gut from the foods we ate, damage to the lining of the gut and increase in unhealthy bacteria could occur. The result could be unhealthy particles of food and bacteria entering the bloodstream creating chronic inflammation. This inflammation and increase in unhealthy gut bacteria affect the entire body as well as the health of the gum tissues. Their pathways increase the potential for gum disease as well as increase unhealthy bacteria in the mouth. Unhealthy bacteria in the mouth and further insult from ingestion of unhealthy carbohydrates will cause gum disease.
Paleo is a lifestyle. A Paleo way of eating may go under various titles. It is sometimes called a primal diet, or an ancestral diet, or a caveman diet. There are no specific foods that make up a Paleo diet. The common denominator is that all these dietsDO NOT include processed foods or processed sugars or conventionally fed and farmed animal products or processed fats and oils. A Paleo diet avoids these unhealthy foods, which often lead to damage in the gut, increase in unhealthy gut bacteria, and eventually damage in the gum tissues.
To come full circle, a Paleo diet, which excludes all these bad foods, can maintain a healthy gut in addition to healing a damaged gut. A Paleo diet can help maintain gum health.
So the importance of Paleo is that its nutrient-dense foods will allow the gut to function properly. A healthy gut will allow nutrients to be absorbed properly and will maintain a healthy community of gut bacteria. All this assists the gum tissues in remaining healthy.

There appears to be a continued public misconception (encouraged by the supplement industry) that free radicals are bad, and that antioxidants are good. Of course, like most phenomena affecting our health, it’s not that simple.
Free radicals are molecules or atoms containing an unpaired electron. Unpaired electrons are attention seekers. They really don’t like being alone, so are always searching out other electrons. This makes them highly reactive. Free radicals are like the unstable friend who shows up drunk to the party and starts breaking things. Antioxidants are molecules that are able to donate an electron to the free radical, thus stabilizing it. They’re like the patient friend who is able to convince the free radical not to drive home, takes him to the back room to calm him down, and brings him water and a bucket once he starts throwing up.
Needless to say, without the presence of antioxidants, free radicals can really ruin the party. The cellular damage that results is called oxidative stress, and is associated with ageing, heart failure, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and many other health problems.
Until recently, the thinking had been that the more antioxidants, the less oxidative stress, because all of those lonely electrons would quickly get paired up before they had the chance to start mucking things up in our cells. But that thinking has changed.
“Free radicals are not really the bad ones or antioxidants the good ones.” Villanueva told me. Their paper explains the process by which antioxidants themselves become reactive, after donating an electron to a free radical. But, in cases when a variety of antioxidants are present, like the way they come naturally in our food, they can act as a cascading buffer for each other as they in turn give up electrons to newly reactive molecules.
“For instance,” Villanueva said, “chocolate has more than 20 antioxidant flavonoids. One is converted into a free radical and becomes reactive, but less reactive [than the first]. It then reacts with another, and that one is less reactive and so on and so forth, and all of them react with each other, decreasing the damage that would be happening to our lipids, or proteins or DNA”

If there is only one type of antioxidant present, say in the case of a high-dose vitamin C supplement, then there are no other antioxidants to provide that protective cascade effect. Then you could end up with a bunch of reactive vitamin C, which itself can cause what they call “antioxidant stress.”
hi guys! I have been using your fermented butter/cod liver oil for the past year - especially for my kids who seem to have cavity prone teeth. Their teeth are doing MUCH better since they have been taking the cod liver oil (thank you!) I DO have a question, though. One of my three kiddos seems to have problems taking the oil - he takes it, and within 12 hours he has a stomach ache and sulfur smelling gas and burps (gross - sorry) It has happened with both batches of oil that we have purchased. I would really love for him to continue taking the oil! Do you have any suggestions or thoughts? thanks!
You will have to do some trial and error. Everyone is different and has different needs. My guess is there will be a issue within the gallbladder, liver, bile duct area. Some things to consider based on our families experience, we have 6 children and one of our children (number 5 Max) had issues that the oils did not fully address and below is what we learned.
1. Reduce the amount of oils and move very slow with the products. These are very nutrient dense and will challenge ones body especially when there are stresses.
2. Consider introducing kelp powder (minerals) or super green powder that is kelp based, brewers yeast (gut help..B vitamins) and maybe getting a juicer. My wife makes a small vegetable (beet based) juice several mornings per week for the family. She will put in 1/2 tsp of brewers yeast, 1/2 tsp of kelp based super green and depending on lunar cycle she will include some diatomaceous earth (parasites are a big deal that are not properly addressed in the overall discussion of health).

Antioxidants Linked To Deadly Unintended Consequences: PhD, Prof Randolph M. Howes MD: 9781470008758: Amazon.com: Books
Dr. Howes presents over 500 scientific reports showing the ineffectiveness of common antioxidants and of these, over 170 studies show harmful effects. This should not be surprising, since our very survival depends on imperative oxidative biochemical pathways. Dr. Howes discusses seven crucial oxidative pathways, including pathogen protection, cancer protection, wound healing, energy production, detoxification, immunity and cellular signaling, which can be blocked or interfered with by "antioxidant stacking or overkill." This paper was published in 1947 By Sir Albert Howard and in a '1984' like prophecy he predicts a link between future generational health and the destruction or change in farming practice ... which is all tied into our food chain.
On another note: Does anyone know a WAPF perspective or book review on Dr. D'Adamo's blood type work. Couple of books of his include: Eat Right for your Blood Typeand Change your Genetic Destiny. His web site is dadamo.com I'm wondering if his work might explain why some people are stronger with skate vs cod, others are stronger on cod and still others do best with both.
I have had this test performed previous along with Geiger count spot checks of inbound livers. We have never seen any issue to date. We will continue to run this type of test from time to time. This was very kind of Dr. Wendy to take the time and effort to run this test as she literally had to bring the product out and physically check 70 people to the product. This is time consuming work. I really appreciate her willingness to do the testing and taking the time to write a report to share.

After Fukushima incident over two years ago, there has been a concern how the radiation is affecting various products from the Pacific Ocean. Testing performed on 70 people revealed no ill effects produced from these two products that have manufactured dates of July 2013.
Testing was performed on Spectravision equipment to assess the energetic effects of the products on acupuncture points related to toxicity and the thyroid. The thyroid was chosen, as it is the major tissue affected by radiation exposure.

Phosphates, Behavior and Learning
"The West German study reported that the additive found to have an immediate effect of altering a child's behavior was phosphate.
Phosphate is a salt or ester of phosphoric acid. It is used in the food industry to emulsify and improve the consistency of its products. Sodium phosphate is in evaporated milk. Phosphorous insecticide residues are often found in salads. Phosphoric acid is used as a flavor in soft drinks, jellies, frozen dairy products, candy, brews, and soft cheese prododucts.......
A diet low in added phosphates is recommended by the University of Mainz Clinic for hyperkinrtic, impulsive or learning-impaired children. Their double-blind studies indicate that phosphate-free diets improve the behavior and learning performance of some behaviourally impaired children......"
The author goes on to describe a link between additives and actions, crime and delinquency and more study needs to be done especially linking crime to foods and industrial food model.
In addition he cautions against a complete blanket statement saying all additives are problems...more study needs to be done.
"All things are poisons, for there is nothing without poisonous qualities. It is only the dose which makes a thing a poison."
I'll add that because we are all individuals, with free will, the 'dose' the author describes above can be substantially different for each person.

Page 55 discusses The Feingold Diet and the book The Feingold Cookbook for Hyperactive Children. Post you comment. Does any of this below still ring true? If so which parts are good and parts that are no longer held in high regard.
In Dr Feingold’s new book The Feingold Cookbook for Hyperactive Children (1981), Two groups of foods are to be eliminated. Group 1....artificial color, artificial flavors... And additionally two anti-oxidant preservatives BHT and BHA are to be eliminated. (I will question other anti-oxidant/preservatives as today there are more variants than was available in 1981 and the list might need to be longer). To determine whether a food or beverage contains these ingredients, read the label. In certain cases, however, these compounds are not listed on the label. For example, BHT or BHA are added to synthetic vitamin D to prevent it from turning rancid. (Is this still true? This book is from 1981 and processes might be different today) Later these fat soluble vitamin containing BHT or BHA is added to milk as required by law. Most low fat milk also contains gylcerol monoleate, an artificial butter flavor used as an emulsifier (again, today might be different than 1981)...... continued on next page

Healing Back Pain By Jon Sarno
I think this book is worthy of this list because of how Sarno shows how the mind is a key player in ones own health including pain. We tend to blame this or that and look for outside influences to 'cure' but in reality much of what ails us is in our mind/stress. Everyone is different and handles environment differently. learning how to cope with ones own mind might be the start to any healing process.
The Curse of Louis Pasteur, Why Medicine is not Healing a Diseased World By Nancy Appleton 1999
Nancy gives a great history of how western medicine got to the place it is and why it is failing. It is Nancy'spremise that we blame disease on 'germs'. When in reality we need to point the finger inward. We are responsible for our own health. Great history with a solid lesson that we all need to hear and understand. Nancy has other great books worthy of reading and placing in your library.
The Science of Psychic Healing by Yogi Ramachalka 1934.
Its been on my shelf for many years.. I admit I have not read the entire book but I think it has something to say about space and movement that is worthy of discussion when dealing with ones health. I used one of the techniques to move molecules (as he describes) and it worked. If anyone has completed this book and would like to post a more complete review please do so.
Health From The Sea and Soil 1962 by Charles Ahlson
Great read, one aspect worth noting, he shows/ documents how simple sea water can be life giving. A spoonful per day. Any one living near the ocean should pick this book up and utilize his inexpensive protocols for health and longevity.
Heliotherapy by A. Rollier 1923
The book documents specific protocols on how to use the sun for healing. He describes a hormonal response that is deeper than the tradition concept of the sun and vitamin D.
Your Own Perfect Medicine by Martha Christy 1994 and Water of Life by Armstrong 1920's I think. Both books teach how important urine therapy is and will make a clear case for all to understand the topic and use it as needed. Armstrong gives case studies from a historical perspective and Christy gives an up to date version that has more 'science' discussion on the subject.

I have read a book that discusses sea water diluted in water to be used every day to great benefit. hers is an interesting article i found on a similar topic;
Diluted seawater contains almost the same concentration of minerals and trace elements as blood plasma, and its sodium content matches that of blood. It has been used successfully in animal tests as a blood transfusion substitute, but human trials are long overdue.
Below is a note from a customer and a post on random test data from this year. As most know, we do supply random test data on our website. The data does not pertain to any one jar and is for informational purposes only. I am tardy in keeping this list of data current. I'll will go sit in the corner for the next hour and promise to do a better job keeping this list updated. The Test data never changes as long as the lab/technician is constant. I don't put much faith into test data other than general information as I fully understand that labs and technicians can make a difference in a number, a number does not mean efficacy, and there are thousands of other molecular structures not discussed and not understood in these products.
The note from Diane below shows efficacy. It is the same type of efficacy identified through science earlier in the 20th century and it show the same type of results reported when we had our products tested using the traditional Vitamin D testing standard Rat Bio Assay. This type of test does not parallel counting molecules but rather the efficacy of Vitamin D as it relates to calcium absorption. This is real testing compared to molecule counting which is... well, i don't think it has deep meaning. I understand this view is contrary to typical societal view.

My 14-year-old granddaughter is a gymnast and competes at a very high level. At a practice at the gym she fell from the uneven bars and broke her elbow. Her parents and three doctors decided surgically inserting a screw to hold the elbow together was the only thing that would make her arm strong enough for her to return to such a high level of competition. And so it was done. At a five-week check up with the surgeon, an X-ray showed that the screw had come out and the elbow had not healed. The doctor was beside himself and asked the parents to get a second opinion, because the only thing he knew to do at that point was to surgically put a plate in her elbow. An appointment was made to see another doctor in 5 days. I had just received our first order of Butter Oil/Fermented Cod Liver Oil capsules from Green Pasture the day they were told her elbow had not healed. I took them to her immediately and suggested at least 6 per day. When the second-opinion surgeon examined her arm after 5 days of BO/CLO, he told her the arm was healed and she could go do whatever she wanted, limited only by whatever hurts. She immediately went to the gym and experienced no pain during her light workout. All that is left to do is remove the screw! Yea Green Pasture!

Molecular isolates.....just does not seem right...too many unknowns
When you take vitamin supplements, they can interfere with the levels of different medications and substances that are absorbed by your body. Increased vitamin D levels appear to be linked with a decrease in the amount of vitamin K in your body, though it is not known if taking vitamin D directly affects vitamin K.
1. Known the vaccines don’t work 2. Known they cause the diseases they are supposed to prevent 3. Known they are a hazard to children 4. Colluded to lie to the public 5. Worked to prevent safety studies

Last fall, Babble posted the 10 most unhealthy “health” foods marketed to kids. It’s encouraging to see mainstream web sites telling the truth about products from the food industry, and hopeful that more will be uncovered in the future. This is invaluable information all parents should have.
As parents, we are bombarded with information from companies about the products they sell. It can be overwhelming. What companies don’t tell us is that labeling is deceptive, and the claims made there usually don’t tell the truth about the food it represents.

A new review published in the journal Public Library of Science ONE confirms that Pandemrix, a swine flu vaccine produced by drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is responsible for causing an up to 1700 percent increase in narcolepsy among children and teenagers under 17 years of age.

A lack of zinc in your diet may be making you aggressive.
Several years ago I ran across a fascinating article in Psychology Today which focused on the origin of violent behavior. Was it nature or nutrition? Could the underlying cause be in one’s upbringing or in their genes? Or just maybe it could be some type of nutritional imbalance.
Taking the nutritional stance was William Walsh, Ph.D. and his team at the Health Research Institute in Illinois. Walsh and his colleagues published a study in Physiology & Behavior(1997)where they compared the results of blood tests given to 135 “assaultive” young males—who were between 3 and 20 years of age—to those of 18 in the control group without any history of violence. The results were staggering: The violent males had higher copper and lower zinc levels than the control group. The higher the copper and lower the zinc, the more aggressive and violent the behavior.
When the aggressive young males were treated with therapeutic doses of zinc, their aggressive episodes were substantially lessened.

SCARE: Self-described as “one of the nation's most comprehensive studies of mercury in commercial fish,” a December 2005 Chicago Tribune report from Michael Hawthorne and Sam Roe claimed that a number of popular fish sold in Chicago markets and restaurants were “so tainted that federal regulators could confiscate the fish for violating food safety rules.” In a later editorial complaining about “Tuna Roulette,” the Tribune warned of “dangerous levels of mercury that can be found in many commonly consumed fish varieties” and called for an increase in FDA testing and food warning labels.
FACT: This report completely ignored the reality of the safety margins that are built into the FDA’s consumer advice. Fish samples exceeding the FDA’s mercury Action Level are not inherently unsafe to eat. According to Hawthorne and Roe, the highest mercury reading in its survey was a swordfish whose concentration was 3.07 parts per million. Considering the Action Level’s built-in safety factor, this is less than one-third of the level that might be harmful. No other species averaged above 1.0 part per million.
FACT: Despite their headline hyperbole, Hawthorne and Roe were unable to find a single sample of tuna that exceeded the mercury Action Level, which is itself just ten percent of what might be harmful.

I found this interesting article... Good for general discussion. The discussion about urine therapy in this type of article is encouraging.
In addition the discussion or debate about levels of vitamin D in blood samples is relevant for debate as the article points out. Real FCLO is different from other cod liver oils as there are many types of D and none of the types are made or extracted and added into the product as other supplements/foods are treated for labeling purposes.
I just don't think we have the knowledge to make conclusions about this molecule or that molecule in relation to natural medicine. So the debate goes on.....
